According to a report from the Korea Times, Tesla has signed an order with South Korea's Hanwha Group for battery formation equipment to produce its own battery packs. Hanwha Group is the largest industrial enterprise group in South Korea. It is famous for solar products in the United States. It also produces many manufacturing equipment. In addition to battery formation equipment for charging and discharging, Hanwha also produces equipment required for assembling batteries. Grooving machine, stacking machine, projection welding machine and bag forming machine.

It is reported that Hanwha's battery formation equipment will initially be supplied to Tesla's Fremont plant in California, USA, and then to the super factories in Nevada, Berlin, Germany, and Shanghai, China. In fact, it is no secret that Tesla wants to produce its own batteries. We don’t need more evidence to confirm, but the report basically lists all of Tesla’s production plants, which also means that Tesla is in the battery. The production will be advanced by leaps and bounds.

Battery formation refers to the process of initial charging and discharging of the battery pack. It is the process performed at the final stage of the battery production process, and the formation and testing steps completed before installation. The formation process needs to control high voltage and accurate output current to ensure that the battery pack can continue to be used within the specified service life.

In other words, battery formation is the process of performing initial charge/discharge operations on the battery. At this stage, a special electrochemical solid electrolyte mesophase (SEI) will be formed on the electrode, mainly on the anode. This is the last step in the battery production process. Tesla has not done it before, but focuses on battery modules and battery packs.

However, Tesla also has its own Roadrunner secret project for the development and production of batteries. Its goal is to reduce the cost to less than $100 per kWh on a large scale. The plan is expected to be officially announced at Tesla's Battery Day event within a few weeks. Last week, Musk hinted that Tesla is about to supervise the official super-watt plant for battery production, but it is not yet clear where the production is. It was previously reported that Tesla has a trial production line for new battery packs at the Fremont plant in California, and confirmed that the Berlin Super Plant will eventually produce battery packs.
